2023 Holidays Impacting Trash Pickup

Generally, holidays do not delay Tuesday recycling/trash pickup in HW, but here is a complete list of those that will push back collection to WEDNESDAY this year:

  • Memorial Day: delayed to Wed, May 31
  • Independence Day: delayed to Wed, July 5
  • Labor Day: delayed to Wed, Sept 6
  • Christmas: delayed to Wed, Dec 27
  • New Year 2024: delayed to Wed, Jan 3, 2024

Branch Chipping

After our pause in branch chipping, as leaf season has ended, the DPW will resume its branch chipping schedule for Wednesdays whenever weather permits.  We are already making a change for this coming week to accommodate all those who have had branches out: in addition to today (December 2), we will have the chipper out on MONDAY, December 5th. We will then resume our Wednesday schedule starting on December 14. Please remember that we can accept branches with 2” minimum diameter (up to 6”) and 4’ minimum length. Smaller stuff goes into yard waste collection. This is a safety issue for our staff.

Sewer Rehabilitation Work
Due to sewer line rehabilitation work, residents may receive a notice on their door handle. If so, the crew has the legal right to access the sewer holes in front of and behind homes. Sewer easements provide the ability for city and construction crews to enter without trespassing.

The City has a NEW drop box on the west side of City Hall!  It is accessible after hours and weekends!  It allows for ALL City business to include water bill payments, tax payments, and absentee ballot applications and ballots!

Notice is hereby given to the owners and occupants of parcels of land in the City of Huntington Woods that any growth of grass or weeds greater than 6 inches in height on the average, or noxious or harmful vegetation not cut by May 1, 2022 will be cut or lawfully destroyed by the City.

Hydrant Flushing through the Month of August
Starting on August 1, the DPW will begin its annual flushing of fire hydrants. This process keeps fire hydrants in good working order. The process stirs up sediment, which can make your water temporarily cloudy or off-color.  If you notice this at home, you will want to clear your water lines by running cold water for several minutes, from an outside hose or a faucet as close to your meter as possible, until the water is clear.
